I think that looking at the negotiations, Greece's best option is to leave the single currency. It is quite clear that any more austerity would further radicalise the Greek population even more than it is already. The only other alternative would be for the EU to bite the bullet and offer a better deal, but I can't see Angela Merkel agreeing to it. Admittedly, a Grexit would cause its own problems (Putin having an ally within the EU for example), but at the present, the negotiations are similar to two trains running at full speed towards each other, with neither willing to prevent a catastrophe if it means swallowing their pride. What do other here think?

I don't know too much about the whole thing, but I am kind of hoping they leave just because I am getting quite annoyed at what seems to be the growing interference of Europe in other countries' affairs.

There is a part of me that agrees with you Antaine, definitely. Sadly, the Greek people will lose either way, no matter which side wins this weekend. Either way the Greeks will be radicalised further in either direction. The best solution would be for a controlled default and Greek exit, with Greek debt slashed in half, otherwise the economy has no chance of growth. Of course, this will be unpalatable to the Germans in particular, but the other alternative would be effectively handing over Greece into the Russian sphere of influence, where it won't be so easy to get it back. Just ask the Ukrainians.

From what I've been hearing, the popular belief right now is that Greek's exit is inevitable. Maybe that's changed since though.
