Kevin Myers has a brilliant article ( as has David Quinn ) in today's Indo., attacking Kenny's vile/sectarian speech & comparing him to Paisley. He's absolutely right. The speech was crude, vulgar, mob-pleasing ( mainly the D.4/media, anti-Catholic mob). He compares Inda unfavourably to the Vatican spokesman, Archbishop Lombardi. Maximum respect to Kevin Myers. The rest of the media have been fawning/grovelling over Kenny's crude soundbites - & they call themselves hard-bitten hacks. More like wimpish sychophants !.

The comparison to Paisley is quite apt in some ways, but the basic mindset (state must control church, anti-clericalism) is straight out of the Henrician Reformation or nineteenth-century Protestant polemics. The idea that the Vatican is the source of all evil and that the Irish Church must break with Rome is being frrely toosed about by the haters in the IRISH TIMES letters column and on Politics.ie.

Absolutely, agree. In view of Kenny's blatant lying over Roscommon hospital, the most accurate headline should have been - " Known Liar, Attacks Vatican ". The insipid, wishy-washy Micheal Martin, as to be expected, has'nt emerged from this sorry episode with any credit either. The sychophancy of Kenny's media groupies is nauseating to behold. Banana Republic, indeed !.

I think Martin is not insipid and wishy-washy; he's worse than that. He's trying to "decontaminate the brand" a la Cameron by playing the liberal card for all he can get. The media types who are praising Kenny's speech are not his groupies - it's the other way round. They are the ones who have been pushing the line that the fault must be placed above all on the Vatican and on a "high" view of the priesthood, because they want the church remodelled to be congregationalist in organisation and latitudinarian in theology. Now that Kenny is regurgitating their party line, of course they praise him for being a good little boy and regurgitating the lesson theey have taught him.

What do you make of Inda's claim of the 200 ( I think that's the number ) Priests who have supported him. Why dont they do us all a favour & just jump ship. Has Brian D'arcy been brought on board by the media as yet to assist their campaign ?.

One possibility is that he is just assuming the support of the ACP or priests claiming to represent it. Senator Cait Keane gave a speech a few days ago explicitly proclaiming her support for the ACP against the Vatican
