At the Teachers Union of Ireland annual conference there was a call for the withdrawal of state funds for private schools but this was not to affect the schools of the minority traditions, this all sounds like an exercise in reverse sectarianism to me.

They were also calling for denominational schools to lose their exemption from anti-discrimination legislation. The teachers' unions have a strong secularist element. To be fair, the point about minority schools is not just reverse discrimination. Since Protestants in many parts of the country are few and scattered, those who want Protestant education for their children have to make greater use of boarding chools and it's right this should be taken into account. (It is a bit odd coming from people who advocate universal secular education, though.)
