Just when you think RTE cant get any worse, listening in part to Joe Duffy's Liveline yesterday, it can get a hell of a lot worse. The spirit of Aoife ( I am a journalist now, but I hope to evolve to pond-scum ) Kavanagh is well & truly alive. Judging by the tone of this programme it's anti-Catholic business as usual. The theme was the highpoints & low points of the year. One of the guests was a character called Mannix Flynn, whom I understand is not exactly unacquanited with the law. He was allowed by Duffy to endulge in a prolonged, vile anti-Catholic rant & in Duffy's universe the only low point was the Cloyne Report. Unsurprisingly, the journalistic low point, vis-a-vis Fr. Kevin Reynolds & RTE, did'nt register on Duffy's radar at all. Analyse that as they say !.

To be fair to Mr Flynn, he was badly treated in Letterfrack Industrial School and I believe he has the documentation to prove it. He has the sort of obsession with his sufferings that is often found in victims of such horrendous crimes, but I do not think it is fair to sneer at him like this.

I was'nt trying to " sneer at " Mr. Flynn, but regardless of whether he was or was'nt abused at Letterfrack, it does'nt excuse his burning to death of two defenceless animals. I ( & my classmates ) encountered a number of thuggish/brutal teachers, but as far as I'm aware no-one reacted in such a brutal manner. If true, Mr. Flynn's tormentors are beneath contempt, but so is he for his actions. The core of my contribution was the biased nature of Duffy's programme. By all means allow Mr. Flynn his say, but allow other viewpoints also.

I hadn't heard about his burning animals -please elaborate, and bear in mind the laws of libel apply to the Internet, so that I will modify your original post to remove the specific allegation unless you can substantiate it within the next 48 hours.

He was convicted of setting fire to a trailer containing two performing bears outside a Dublin theatre. Anyway, don't worry, I'm away from this site. Won't trouble you anymore. God bless & mind how you go.

Ok - if you are referring to something of which he was convicted in a court of law that is fair enough.

Let me clarify my position slightly. I don't have any brief for Mannix Flynn and I know very little about him, and I certainly did not mean that the abuse he undoubtedly suffered excuses his criminal behaviour. I asked Los Leandros to explain his statement or have it taken down because this board cannot be used for unsubstantiated statements about living people; if you make such statements you have to make it clear what you are accusing them of and provide evidence/a source. Remember if you are mistaken in such a statement the consequences for this board could be serious.
