Can anybody give me some information on the Eucharistic Congress next year? I bought my ticket yesterday and it has gone through, I paid online and got my reference number. I'm wondering how it works now, do they send the ticket out? Has anyone been involved with them or bought a ticket a while back and received anything in paper through the post?

To answer my own question, I called them and they said that they get in contact closer to the event and will send tickets then. Also, for those who want to buy your tickets (hint - the Pope may come to Croker!) you only have until the end of October.

Now THAT is really startling. They certainly haven't made much effort to secure a large attendance.

What is startling?
Fr. Kevin told us months ago that they had to close up early because of insurance reasons, logistical reasons, security etc and also so they can figure out money-wise where they stand. I would think that if it is announced in January that the Pope is coming there would be a huge rush for tickets, many from troublemakers and protesters. Can you imagine that in Croke Park? It would be shameful. Perhaps that's why they're closing up early..
They did a collection a few months ago for it, I hope it was not only our priests who discussed it....but it seems that only those who are involved in parish life know about it. I don't think people realise the deadline is so early though. The other problem is that to volunteer you have to do it online and upload a picture. He said this is a way to get your grandchildren involved. Not everyone has grandchildren or is a technophile. It's for security reasons he said...but still, it's not very easy for pensioners to get involved.
I hope he gets a full house, despite the lack of advertising. He did say that months ago they were already getting a plethora of international inquiries. Its success is not only depending on us thank Christ.

So the dates for booking tickets have been very much extended. Here is the latest booking form. www.iec2012.ie/index.jsp?p=111&n=182 I encourage you to buy a ticket or two. We really need a good turnout for the Congress. I could say that it would be a snub to the government, Kenny and the anti-Catholic media. They are just not important though. What is really important is celebrating the Eucharist. Where two or more are gathered (Matthew 18:20). There are a lot of Catholics in Ireland who need to know that they are not alone. There are so many priests who do a stellar job and are abused and mocked for wearing the clerical collar. There are many lukewarm Catholics who need a shot in the arm and a generation of children growing up who don't know about the Real Presence. Ireland NEEDS this and we need it to be a success. Please talk to people you know about this, spread the word, ask people if they are attending, ask elderly people if they need help buying a ticket (online for example). If you're feeling charitable and are able, gift a young family or a godchild with a ticket. Croke Park needs to be full on the last day, I don't care if the media complain about cost or not or success or not. Those who attend will know why it is important, we need a good dose of the Eucharist to our weakening faith. So please attend, volunteer for it and if you can, gift someone you know with a ticket. We are the ones who will make it a success or not. www.iec2012.ie/index.jsp?p=111&n=182www.iec2012.ie/index.jsp?p=172&n=2039&a=0www.iec2012.ie/index.jsp?p=110&n=173&a=0www.iec2012.ie/index.jsp?p=108&n=147
