Does anyone feel that there is a sinister & nasty tone to Ho Chi Quinns attempted bullying of the religious orders. Talk about " sending in the bailiffs " is playing to the intolerant D.4 mob. Beneath contempt. What if Quinn was held to account for the crimes against humanity committed in the name of socialism. Should his D.4 pad be commandeered !.

INdeed - the IRISH CATHOLIC points out that Quinn says that unless Catholic schools are transferred education budgets will have to be severely cut to pay for compensating abuse victims, but transferring the schools will not make any difference to the education budget since the schools will presumably continue to be run as schools and cost as much whether they are run by the state or the church. The big problem though is that the blunders and worse of the bishops and religious orders in the past have helped to get us into this mess - it has allowed Ruairi Quinn and Co to create a situation where defending the right of children to a Catholic education can be presented as defending abusers. (NOt to mention that the demise of the teaching orders because their members got too grand to teach in schools has already gutted the schools' Catholic nature to a considerable extent).

The socialists have all conformed to the monetarist credo so therefore they were thrown a few bones (ie. education) to worry over in public because they don't actually have a distributist bone in their bodies and it doesn't cost the depleted state coffers an extra penny if they go totally ape on the Catholic church.

Minister Quinn's latest wheeze is to cut the amount of funding to single sex schools in favour of increasing the funding for mixed sex schools thereby delivering another good kicking to Catholic faith based education in Ireland. He is a bitter little man, indeed the only time that I ever saw him do any good work for his constituents was when he would dress up to play the part of a wren boy down Ringsend way on a Saint Stephen's Day, what a laugh we peasants did have!Gor bless ya Gov'ner.
