Father Beauvais is the main priest of Saint Nicolas du Chardonnet in Paris V. A church who belongs to the SSPX. In his last editorial of his parish letter, he's giving out about the way some female parishioners wear trousers, do not wear a mantilla and, even worst, have their skirt too short. Men, according to the Abbé, should be clean shaved and their hair well dressed. But above all, he wrote that he might refuse the communion to any ladies whose skirt is too short, as the norm would be under the knees.
This is the extract (in broken english, using Google translate) :
That is why - following a few reminders given by our senior district which is steeped in this editorial - let me reiterate that it is abnormal to see more and more ladies and girls come to church in pants , to see more and more that do not cover their heads in church, even more unusual to see shorter skirts more. Do not think that our eyes are lying on the pleasure where he does not need but do not force us, if this trend does not correct to refuse the name of decency, communion with those whose skirts are not covered knees.
The men, many are they keeping relaxed, unshaven, not coiffés. I ask you: where is the respect due to God in public worship you just give Him? In this church, you were often cautioned against modernism - and many other things - and it is normal. You can not accuse us coming back on the issue of uniforms.

I question the unshaven aspect of men being an issue, if they are unkempt? yes then it is lacking due reverence and respect, if they were young men being clean shaven is to be expected. But I doubt men who groom themselves and their facial hair can be said to be disrespectful. As for the skirt issue, I think skirts are way too short in public places anyway. When they bother to wear them that is.

Is he really saying that he will refuse communion to men with beards? To be fair about the short skirts, this is not confined to the SSPX - anyone who has visited St Peter's will have seen the signs stating that women in miniskirts (and men in shorts) are banned and inviting them to cover up.

This is a topic I prefer to avoid in general. On one hand the secularist attitude to dress is apalling - the Islamic attitude is equally bad. If we sail too close to one or the other, we are in trouble.

Don't we have better things to discuss on this forum?
