Pope Benedict XVI will sign today but publish tomorrow the Pastoral letter addressed to all Irish catholics.
The letter will be available on the Vatican website, I will publish it here also.
I except comments from our catholics members.

I don't know much about Cardinal Brady. On television he looks like the average second-generation Vatican II clone with his ostentatiously plain black suit and his little dicky slot-in clerical collar. (When did you last see a prelate of the Church of Ireland trying to pass himself off as a vicar? And why do Catholic priests and religious, when they don't wear clerical or religious clothing, make a fetish of dressing like blind people?) But if Pope John Paul II chose him as Primate of Ireland he must be more than that.
No he should not resign. Catholic priests, and prelates in particular, are prey to a lynch mob at the moment. If he feeds them, they will only want more, and he will do nothing for Catholics. The "survivors" demanding his resignation will never be appeased, and he will only demoralise the remaining faithful a bit more.

John Paul II made some pretty poor appointments (not to mention his description of Fr. Maciel as "an efficacious guide to youth"). I agree that there is a lynch mob out there - the trouble is that behind all the media frenzy real crimes have been committed and covered up, and the fact that some of the "survivors" will not be appeased by anything short of disbanding the Church does not alter the fact that their bitterness began with real and horrific injustices agains them.

I have added a poll on "Should Cardinal Brady resign?" to the "Scandals" thread.
