I wouldn't take this literally, Guillaume. Brian Mershon isn't much of a journalist and Mgr Barreiro isn't much of a source. I know one and have a lot of background info on the other. I have seen trouble arise from articles by Mershon and beans spilt by Mgr Barreiro.

I think its more of a case that Msgr Barrieros marbles have become loose again...they don't have to accept a Council of the Church-yeah right! I see one Fr Paul McDonald has come up with the same type of nonsense-this can be viewed at Rorate caeli blogspot but they give it creedence there. Its definitely silly season given the nonsense that has occurred over the last fortnight.

I'm giving 3-1 odds tricky Dickie won't be a Bishop by the end of the year-a practising one that is.

I'm not a betting man, Monkeyman, but I don't quite get the terms of your wager. Is it that Williamson will submit and accept the Church's command not to exercise his illicitly obtained orders, or that he will not be a bishop in good standing (i.e. he will break away from the SSPX and from the Church, and become a wandering bishop like Michael Cox and those in the CMRI, SSPV and other sedevacantist groups). I suspect the latter is likelier than the former, though God's grace is strong...

I think the Williamson's issue is about or should be able to finish soon. Bishop Fellay, in the name of the SSPX, had condemned this position regarding the Shoah several times. Even Bp Williamson had asked pardon 4 times to Bp Fellay. Also, in a recent interview, in a french catholic publication (non trad), non published yet, but in which i heard some extracts, the attitude of Bp Fellay had completely changed and now is leading his Society totally to Rome. In this interview, he also condemned his precedent "eccentric" positions". Things won't be easy and will take time. Issues are several. Of course, we got the NOM, the Application of V2, and some "doctrinal issues", like the Religious Freedom. The Pope is trying to apply the Reform of the Reform. Ecumenism should start within the Catholic Church, so mortified and in which many communities are divided. Jesus Will is that "all be one". It is the Will of the Pope as well. Williamson issue, had created many passions. But it is the Tree which is hiding the forest. If we do not stop to speak about it and to focus about it, we are screaming with the wolves, and are going on the side of the enemies of the Church. As Christian, I think we should pray for this reconciliation, and also, pray for Bp Williamson, most in need at the moment. To judge and condemn is not a Christian attitude, that belongs to the Lord. I do not justify Williamson position and attitude, far from it. But, I start to be a bit tired of the whole condemnation of the secular World, and many modernists, who found something serious to attack the Pope and the Church. The Church is in big crisis. As believers, we should not start to attack Her, and being part of the hateful crow, like the Frenchmen attacking the Beast. "Love your enemy".
