To know what is it all about read this : catholic-perspective.blogspot.com/2008/10/sspx-is-asking-for-one-million-chaplets.html
The excommunication of the 4 bishops and Msg Lefebvre took place in 1988, after Msg Lefebvre consecrated 4 priests to Bishops, against the permission of Rome. According to the Canon Law, this act is punished by the excommunication, which the defunct Pope JP II used against the 4 bishops and Msg Lefebvre. To justify this act, the SPPX maintains that the acts were necessary in order to keep the Traditionalism in the Church. This essential aspect of "state of necessity" is actually not denied by today's Rome and the Pope Benedict the XVI. It is also obvious that the publication of the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum had been published in order to please the numerous members of the SPPX, for which they prayed another "one million" chaplets for the return of the celebration of the latin mass. If the excommunications are lifted, the SPPX will be in total communion within the CC. In times of serious crisis of the Church, crisis which affects all of us and the sanctification and salvation of souls, in times when heresies are numerous within the Church, in times where vocations are closed to nil, in times where bishops do little or nothing to promote the Latin mass, in times where the NOM had allowed all sorts of delirium, disrespect and lose of faith, in times of total relativism, in times where masons, inspired by the Devil, manage well to destroy the Church within, in times where Jesus IS NOT praised and glorified according to His Holy Being, traditionalism is a recourse and a refuge for many concerned. The SPPX will, with no doubt, despite many difficulties, manage to restore the Glory and Sweet but firm Authority that the church needs in order to save our souls !
