Hi I wanted to take a moment to highlight this Famine graveyard to my fellow readers. Who may be planning on visiting Co Louth in Ireland in the near future. This famine graveyard in Killally (three miles south of Dundalk) was established in 1853 and continued in use until 1912. It was utilised primarily for those persons who died within the workhouse (now demolished) on the Ardee Road. The Graveyard was left unattended for years until some locals got together to clean it up and now have yearly service of remembrance mass. Please feel free to visit the site or pay a virtual visit. The website is below. www.dundalkfaminegraveyard.comBest regards Aidan

Very good, Aidan. We should all remember the neglected dead, in our prayers and otherwise.

Hi, I have visited this Famine graveyard. It is in a tranquil location and it's a beautiful walk to it along a public road called Sidella. It is in the townland of Killally. There is plenty of wildlife in the area and a lot of dog walkers take advantage of the quiet location away from busy roads. It's worth a visit! There is plenty of history, information and photos on the website www.Dundalkfaminegraveyard.com
Regards Kevin
