So after intending to do so for some time, I have at last got around to attending a Youth 2000 prayer group. One thing I noticed was that one of the prayers said was to Our Lady of All Nations, which I had never heard of before. A quick Google search suggests that it is approved, though there are others criticising it, and it was ruled to be false at one stage before being overturned. Anyone have an opinion on this?

One of the messages alleged to be from Our Lady included a request for the Church to shorten the time of fasting before Communion; another was an instruction not to ordain women to the priesthood. A jarring part of the alleged apparition for me was the allegation that the material Our Lady had around her waist had originally been an undergarment of Our Lord's. The fact that a carved statue of the apparition wept 101 times in Akita, Japan gives me cause for wonder. Many things are beyond our understanding.

The thought occurred to me recently, in the light of our friend Mary McAleese's constant criticism of the Church, including accusations of misogyny, why are the vast majority of apparitions in the world feature Our Lady rather than Christ for example? Is there a message in this?

Is there a message in this? I remember a small boy asking Mijana in Medjugorje why Our Lord sent Our Lady to us instead of coming himself. We all laughted at the little lad but Mirjana answered him by saying that she didn't know why. He has come as a newborn baby each Christmas Day with Our Lady and spoke on one occasion. He was also with Our Lady on the 24th of June 1981. In the apparition of Guadalupe, He is present but hidden from view.

Yes, that thought, Christ coming only at the end times, occurred to me almost as soon as I posted. As apparitions of Mary outnumber those of, for example, Archangels, prophets or saints, could it be something to do with the sanctity of the family and children? Is this saying that the great battle revolves around the family and children, something we see happening in front of our eyes daily? I think so.

I think so. When Our Lady gave her word "Behold the handmaid of the Lord" it was for all eternity as was her being given to us at the foot of the cross as our mother. She has a mother's love for us, her children, and is either allowed by God to come visit us on request as she did with St Catherine Labouré or is sent by God to us as a people for particular reasons. Many apparitions are linked. Our Lord came to St Margaret Mary with a request for and the promises linked to devotion to His Heart on the First Fridays be made known to the people. He also asked that France be consecrated to Him. This consecration wasn't done at that time. Later, reference was made to this when Our Lord appeared (along with Our Lady) to Sr Lucia as a youth, asking for the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart along with the devotion of the five first Saturdays. The apparitions at Rue du Bac and Lourdes were linked. Many of Our Lady's requests to St Catherine Labouré weren't being carried out so she apologised and asked Our Lady to try elsewhere. When she heard about Lourdes and how Our Lady was clad as were the ladies of the Children of Mary she knew that it was the same Lady. Lourdes is well known now but Rue du Bac not so. Some see the apparition at Knock as foretelling the end times on account of St John the evangelist being to the foreground and perhaps preaching about the acopolapse. The church itself is dedicated to St John the Baptist. Our Lord himself is included in the figure of the Lamb. St Joseph is there too along with Our Lady. I see it as an immensely hopeful apparition. Our Lady is looking straight up into Heaven with a joyful expression, Our Lord is gazing at her, St Joseph is paying honour to her and St John is teaching us from the sacred scriptures. It could perhaps be said that the attitude of Our Lady is similar to that of a priest at Mass but I think it is rather a representation of her joyful acceptance of the Father's will at the time of the Annunciation. Apart from Zeitun in Egypt, it is the only time an apparition has been witnessed by a large number of people. Sometimes people object to Our Lady praying the Our Father along with the visionaries in Medjugorje. Having been present on one of these occasions, I discovered that Our Lady recites the first part of the Our Father down to "...Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven", and the visionary takes us the second part "Give us this day our daily bread" etc to the end. Since Our Lady holds all her roles at the will of God, her work seems to consist in drawing us to Him and away from everything that would harm us in any way. May we always honour her motherhood and give her joy by loving her Son.

Is this saying that the great battle revolves around the family and children, something we see happening in front of our eyes daily? I think so. Yes. Sr Lucia is alleged to have said that the final battle will be about the family. We can read the signs of the times. They are dire. They were also dire in France in 1830. We must not be afraid. We have strong help if we would only accept it. I see where the former chaplain to the queen of England is to join the Catholic church this weekend. One of the things that convinced him of the validity of the Catholic church's claim to be the true church of Christ is the number of eucharistic miracles we have had. There have been none in his church. Our Lady also has appeared exclusively to Catholics except in Zeitun, Egypt in 1968 when it was to all peoples and at a Coptic church.
