This Mass was indeed in Newtownmountkennedy, at St Joseph's church in the main street. The celebrant is Fr Sean Smith, the priest in charge. The server was Nick Lowry. For several years now, Fr Smith has been celebrating this Mass at 11 am on every Saturday in the year, except on the comparatively rare occasions when he has a funeral or is on holiday or retreat. He is originally from Co. Meath. He used to celebrate the old Mass when he was PP in Roundwood. The Newtown Mass is quite well attended, with a congregation of over 20 most Saturdays, the majority of them local but a few from as far afield as Greystones, Kilmacanogue, Roundwood and Dun Laoghaire. (Newtown is half an hour's drive from Dun Laoghaire.) Fr Smith is available for confessions before Mass. The church was renovated some years ago, but as you can see, the altar rails were left intact. The crucifix has a very interesting--indeed inspiring--history but it would take too long to go into that now. The present altar is the usual coffee-table structure, well away from the wall which means the priest has to go round it to reach the tabernacle. There is a picture of the old altar in the sacristy. It was very fine. I would suggest to participants of this forum that this Mass is very worthy of your support. I am delighted that someone had the initiative to record it. A very satisfactory and reasonably-priced breakfast can be had in Bunter's cafe a couple of hundred yards down the street.

Just looked at the Irish language section in The Irish Times this morning (Wed, 14 November - appropriately on the Feast of St Lorcan O'Toole, who would have been well acquainted with the original Askel McThurkhill). I see the Archdiocese of Dublin has issued a booklet to enable priests celebrate the OF Mass in Irish. I'll try to put together a longer post comparing provision of Aifreann Gaeilge and traditional Latin Mass in the Archdiocese of Dublin. I don't begrudge the Gaeilgóirí anything and I'll leave it up to the readers if there is a fairness issue.
On that topic, the Meath diocese has two Gaeltacht parishes in it (Athboy includes Rath Cairn and Orristown includes Baile Ghib), but I don't believe they are breaking their necks to see Irish speakers are provided for, but there are two locations in the diocese with the TLM is available every Sunday, so comparison between the two would be uneven throughout Ireland.

Just started a thread on the pastoral and liturgical provision of Irish in Dublin and other dioceses, including a comparison with TLM provision, for anyone who wants to comment.

The celebration of a First Friday EF Mass in St John Vianney in Dublin 9's Ardlea Road has gone uncommented upon. Sadly, this is coming to an end as Fr Robert Mann SCJ is moving. Rumour has it, strong rumour from reliable sources, that Archbishop Martin contacted the Sacred Heart Fathers provincial to get him moved and it appears the sole motivation was the EF Mass.

I must ask everyone to be discreet in repeating rumours on this board, and I don't accept responsibility for them. I have in the past met people who attemded the EF Mass at St John Vianney, on the annual Ecclesia Dei pilgrimage in honour of St Oliver Plunkett.

Father Mann SCJ has indeed left Ardlea, but the congregation are asking Fr David Jones to continue the regular Mass there.

This morning the Low Mass in St Kevin's was celebrated by Raymond Cardinal Burke with Fr Deighin adm assisting. His vestments were a black and gold, while today is either white (St Charles Borromeo) or red (SS. Vitalis and Agricola), but maybe this was a Mass for the Dead given the week.

As someone relatively new to traditionalism, this thread has been very interesting. It appears the scene hasn't changed much in the last ten years, would it be fair to say the congregation numbers at Saint Kevin's have been stagnant?

It jumped a bit in the beginning, but remained consistent since

I really don't count the congregation because I go to St Kevin's to worship. It seems fairly full to me, and bear in mind that since SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM some people who would have gone to St Kevin's attend EF Masses elsewhere.

Does anyone know if the Byzantine divine liturgy is celebrated in Dublin anymore?

With the resumption of normal Mass schedules, Sunday Mass in St. Kevin's Church, Harrington St returns to 10.30 am, but the Low Mass at 9 am is retained. This is the first time there is a choice of Masses in Dublin and this is to be welcomed.

For the present, EF Masses in the Archdiocese of Dublin are those who take place in St Kevin's Church, Harrington St, Dublin 8 only. Any Mass outside that church will be permitted on a case by case basis only.
