Merry Christmas to one and all and many happy returns for 2017. By the way, I notice that Antaine has now deleted his account. In spite of my many disagreements with him, I am very sorry to see him leave. I do hope that he might reconsider coming back under another name. As we're on the subject, does any one think I might be too confrontational in the thick of debates? Spartacus and Venmatttalbot left after similar altercations, and I am beginning to wonder if my debating style might be intimidating people off the board? What do people think.

Merry Christmas Young Ireland!
It's a shame that Antaine has deleted his account. Who knows why he may have done so; certainly his last posts seemed serene enough. I hope he comes back.
I don't think you are too confrontational in your debating style, indeed, you are perfectly courteous (as are all the regulars on the forum). Venmatttalbot was extremely rude and got the reaction he should have expected. I don't remember Spartacus.
Both yourself and Antaine have a style of line-by-line, itemized debating which I personally find a little tough to follow; true, it deals directly with every point made, but it can seem quite choppy and like a tennis marathon. Maybe it can edge towards being somewhat confontational; more leisurely paragraphs seems more relaxed and congenial. But this could just be a difference of styles. Lord knows maybe people find my own style ponderous and waffling!

Durgaprasadzone is banned as a spam merchant. Using the Prolife thread for this purpose was particularly disgraceful.

I won't be posting for some days for work and family reasons - nothing serious.

Happy Easter to all of our readers and contributors! Remember that although things are tough now, Christ has already conquered evil, and that any advances of evil will only ever be temporary.

Austins is now banned. I have received one too many complaints. I would tolerate him if he came out and argued his views in the forum, but links without explanation are too much.

I think it would be fair to ban those who engage in aggressive proselytizing, even on a first offence. Yes, I'm pro free speech, but it's just tiresome-- we've all heard it all before. This is a board for Catholics. Plenty of other places on the internet to do that.
(And I'm not one of the people who complained, by the way.)

I would tolerate someone who argued for the truth of evangelicalism a la CS Lewis, but there are limits. Incidentally, one text he has neglected is "ye know not the day nor the hour". This sort of insistence that the end of the world is just round the corner has made believers ridiculous all too often - I have come across nineteenth-century evangelical books explaining that Napoleon III would soon be unveiled as Antichrist. I recently read a popular novel set in the 3rd century Roman Empire. Some Christians appear in walk-on parts, but the hero - and by extension the author - seems sunk in the late-Roman despair to which Christ's Church offered and still offers a remedy. At one point a Christian explains to the hero that some other Christians with whom he had an unpleasant encounter (they betrayed a city to the barbarians in hope of bringing on the Second Coming) were manifest heretics now burning in Hell - "Every orthodox believer knows the Lord will not return for at least another 200 years". Alas, the Philistines rejoice.
