I have to say I was surprised to see the appointment of a new Bishop of Clonfert, but when I read Mgr Michael Duignan's CV, I suspect that he may be taking on more responsibility in future years. Maybe more dioceses.

One diocese that might be abolished with benefit is Killala. To judge from its recent so-called "Listening exercise" it seems to have become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the ACP and its associated lay groups; it is treating the latter as sole representatives of the laity.

Alasdair's prediction about the Bishop of Clonfert has been borne out. The merger of Cork and Ross began with the Bishop of Cork being made Apostolic administrator of Ross when it fell vacant, and it seems we are seeing the same with Clonfert/Galway.

At present, Dromore is administered from Armagh and Ossory is administered from Ferns. Ardagh and Clonmacnois is vacant. It's anyone's guess what comes next.
