Here is a talk I gave on the subject of my book at a Legion of Mary youth conference in Queen's University, Belfast, last year. This is a very good talk, really enjoyed it maolsheachlann. Would really recommend watching it for anyone interested in the Saints. Great to see the Legion of Mary is active in Queens (at least in 2018) I find the lives of the Saints and learning from them are a great antidote to all that's going on at the moment. I shall be buying this book. Is it still for sale / where can we get it?

Thank you maolsheachlann, looking to forward to reading it now, though I have a backlog at the minute !
After I do, I'll post a review there for it. There is lifelong learning to be found in the Saints every day especially in these interesting times !
PS your blog looks very good, please keep up the Catholic writing ! Must have a read there as well. God Bless.

Yes, there has been endless discussion of the ills in the Church. But there has been endless discussion of everything. We wouldn't expect philosophers to close the file on free will vs. determinism or historians to give on the reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire because they're talked out. A forum by its nature is about discussion and disagreement. I think this forum is very gentlemanly and substantive compared to many others.

I'll just put down the jarring experience on first posting here to being an exception so. I've no issue with reasoned discussion about any subject. It's misrepresentation, ad homiem, and false assumptions about the other person's views, knowledge and personal experience that there is far too much of online. Play the subject not the person. Far too little education is given in schools now about how to discuss a topic without making it about the other party or an attempted pissing contest about who knows what. It's tiresome and time wasting and I don't tolerate or give it any quarter anymore. Life’s too short and there is an endless abundance of much more interesting Catholic dialogue and productive Catholic knowledge and information to exchange. Here's to more of that here.

This forum is a bit like a nursing home full of cranky old men who snap at each other constantly but are secretly fond of each other underneath.
I mean, myself and Young Ireland have had all-out flame wars but we're still friends who agree on ninety per cent of subjects, I'd say.
For my part, what I think Catholic discourse needs more of is FACTS. I've almost stopped reading the Catholic media because I'm tired of opinionating and perpetual hovering over first principles. There are two thousand years of Catholic history, of which we only ever skim the surface. Then exegesis, patristics, Thomism, etc.
If you can look past the occasional peevishness this forum is quite a goldmine. Hibernicus's knowledge is awesome and Alasdair's posts on Catholic geography have taught me a lot. And many others also contribute their knowledge, of course.

I can really identify with that, it's same page I'm on, there's an absolutely enormous and much more productive treasury out there to share discuss and life long learn from concerning deeper spiritualty and the saints as well, and many Irish connections to throw in. Looking forward to it Maolsheachlann.
