Tomorrow 22 November is Red Wednesday when we have been asked to wear something red to draw attention to persecution of Christians, especially in the Middle East.

Wore a red t-shirt. No-one asked any questions.

Attended a Catholic talk that night. Saw no one but myself wearing red (though a lot of raincoats in use that night, so perhaps hard to conclude!)

Wore a red tie myself. I noticed very little red at Mass and I got no questions any where. For something like this to work it needs a lot more publicity beforehand

Red Wednesday is 28 November this year. That's Wednesday next week. I will try to drum up some interest between now and then

I'm afraid I forgot all about Red Wednesday until I was coming home on the bus tonight. Mea culpa.

I think it would be a good idea to light up churches in Ireland on a particular night each year to highlight the killing of children through abortion now that it has been legalised.
It would be more effective to light up the churches on a winter night (not too close to Christmas as that would cause confusion) rather than on, say, the anniversary of the referendum in May when daylight lasts much longer.
A day somewhere between late October and mid-November, a day perhaps linked to a saint or an event relating to children or innocence.
As for the colour, perhaps green signifying fertility and hope, blue signifying Mary or yellow signifying light.
It can be legitimately argued that the worst has already happened but even a gesture as such would remind the people of what is happening and not let the issue be tamely airbrushed from the public sphere.
Any thoughts?

I don't know if any point can be made, but tomorrow 24 November is this year's Red Wednesday.
