I've been wanting to express my appreciation for something/someone for some time so I thought it might be worthwhile to get a thread where we can write in praise of something or someone that we find ourselves appreciating......
Firstly I would like to write in praise of......Christy Moore.
This man is special. He has brought our musical and oral tradition, the Irish appreciation of the power of the word/song/performance, right into the twenty-first century. And for that he gets my praise. His music is brilliant as well, to such a high standard. So here we have one of the finest performers, popular singers/song writers in the world and he's an Irishman. His music has delightful twists and turns and humour and to have maintained that sense of fun and joy and anti-puritanism and sense of balance and to share that with millions an achievement in the times we live in. What can I say, I could try to go on but all I want to write is.........in praise of Christy Moore.

He's certainly talented. But personally I cannot stand him. He is always pushing left-wing causes, and he is also a Church-basher. www.irishcentral.com/news/famous-irish-singer-christy-moore-not-a-fan-of-the-eucharistic-congress-158412155-237509811Still, I think your idea of a thread "In praise of" is a very good one. It is too easy to lapse into negativity. Good one, Irishconfederate. Moore is one of many figures who have done lot of good work for Irish traditional music. Pete St. John is probably the one I would single out-- wonderful lyricist. "The Mero" is one of the most extraordinary song lyrics I've read, like a montage of a whole era.
