Cloyne is a diocese with a Catholic population of nearly 150,000 served by 140 priests in 46 parishes. It covers most of Co Cork. Its official website is: www.cloyne.irl.com/. Bishop John Ahern was Bishop of Cloyne between 1957 and 1987 when he was succeeded by Mgr John Magee SPS, who had hitherton been Papal Master of Cermonies after serving as secretary of three successive popes. Cloyne was one of the five dioceses consistently named as not allowing the traditional Mass on the eve of Summorum Pontificum. Though it has been asserted that no requests have been received, there is considerable evidence to show that requests were made. Though Cloyne was the penultimate diocese in Ireland to allow the traditional Mass, Bishop Magee became the first bishop to say the extraordinary form in his own cathedral since the liturgical changes on 25 March 2008 following a petition by St Colman's Society for Catholic Liturgy. Since then, Fr Gabriel Burke in Macroom has began saying Mass privately with doors open in the parish church on Monday evenings.

Well, the LMSI is at work in Cloyne give there was Mass in Baile Mhuirne, but the Dean of the diocese allowed a TLM in Midleton - where there had been controversy earlier with the St Colman's Society.

The website is a little out of date as it still gives Dr Magee as the diocesan bishop. I understand Archbishop Clifford is the Apostolic Administrator right now.

Just got the following news on the grapevine:
Mass will be offered in St. Colman's Church, Macroom on Friday 23rd April at 7.30 p.m. Celebrant: Rt. Rev. Mgr. James O'Donnell
Isn't that St George's Day? I think I see Father Gabriel Burke's work there.

Fr Gabriel Burke will say the EF Mass in St Mary's Church, Carrigtwohill on 5 October at 8pm (1st Friday).
If there is a significant congregation, the PP will put this on on a regular basis.
