The confirmations are the first trad confirmations (apart from those conferred by SSPX bishops) in Ireland since the liturgical changes.
It is a bit out of character with the Archbishop as he usually delegates ordinary form confirmations to priests.

What's with Dermo? He is taking no new auxilliaries. I know many kids go to Mass for the last time at confirmation, but they'll take it even less seriously if they don't have a bishop come and do it.

Not quite sure whats up with ahaha "Dermo" but going completely off topic...the lid is about to blow on the clerial abuse scandals in the Archdiocese....will make Ferns look like the teddybears picnic allegedly. Therein you might see the reason for him being present for these confirmations and so as to try not to seem like an aloof individual who delegates confirmations to lowly priests....afterall though he was a nice man look at the mess Cardinal Connell made...

Yes, Monkeyman, that is a plausible explanation. But the reason people like Dermo have auxilliaries is to allow them be used as punchbags.

I'm flattered that I could be said to have "largely led" an "amount of agitation" about the use of the old rite in 1988. Although I have a personal preference for this rite, I hope that my reporting on RTE did no more than reflect the news of the day!

No doubt you applied your usual professional standards to the story, Kieron, but trads owe you a debt of gratitude for seeing a story there. Not every journalist has this ability.
Thank you.

I hear there is a new political style called 'Dermocracy' - government of the people by Dermo and for Dermo. Some people reckon the Archdiocese of Dublin to be very Dermocratic.
