The Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly has a Catholic population of 80,000 served by 159 priests in 46 parishes. It covers most of Co Tipperary and parts of Co Limerick. Its suffragan sees are Killaloe, Limerick, Kerry, Cloyne, Cork & Ross, Waterford & Lismore and Kifenora, though the latter is customarily listed with Tuam because it is administered by the Bishop of Galway & Kilmacduagh. Its official website is: www.cashel-emly.ie/.
When the indult Quattuor Abhinc Annos came into force in 1984, Archbishop Thomas Morris was Archbishop since 1959 and he contined to serve until 1988. He was succeed by Archbishop Dermot Clifford, who had been Coadjutor Archbishop of Cashel and Emly since 1985.
There has been a monthly SSPX varying between Cashel and Thurles for many years. The SSPX have one Irish student who is a native of Cashel, Co Tipperary named Peadar Walsh.
The organisation Ecclesia Dei Ireland established an annual pilgrimage to Holycross Abbey, Holycross, Co Tipperary in 1992. Archbishop Morris presided at these liturgies until he died in 1997.
In April, 2008, Fr John O'Rourke, parish priest of Gortnahoe and Glengoole, initiated a First Thursday a month Mass in Glengoole, Co Tipperary.
I think I met Peadar Walsh once. Nice guy - but I was sorry to see he was a devotee of Fr Denis Fahey CSSp.
Askel, can you tell us more about Fr Fahey and perhaps post some links? I understand he had some strange views about Jews.
St Michael the Archangel, defend us in the hour of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, thrust Satan down to Hell and with him all the wicked spirits that wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

The monthly Mass is continuing in Glengoole, but there is not much more to talk about in the Cashel Archdiocese. Though I have heard that Father Tom Cunningham CSSp says Mass privately in Rockwell College, with open doors.
I am in this Diocese and can't wait for Dermot Clifford to retire - for lots of reasons. Hopefully in 2014 or thereabouts we will get a better Archbishop. I have seen this man in action and he leaves a lot to be desired.

I think a lot of people in a lot of dioceses think the same way as Lean, but the question is, here in the case of Cashel, is there any priest available to replace Archbishop Clifford who would make a positive impact? I wonder this in respect of all 26 dioceses, as I don't see any evidence of major initiative from any Irish bishop.
margaretann: Is anyone hanging out white and yellow bunting for the Popes visit this year as we did for the last Popes visit.

Magus123: I don't know what to believe about Medjegorje now. I was there in 1989. I saw the Priest and 2 of the visionaries. Is it real?

Magus123: Please, talk to me.

Young Ireland: No Magus, it is not. Anything miraculous happening there is the result of people's faith and not the apparition.

Claritas: Medjugorje ? I leave the visions / visionaries up to the Church. As for Our Lady - She is there. Go and experience the grace for yourself for a week. I was completely skeptical of Medjugorje until I did. It's an indescribably spiritual place.

maolsheachlann: Why did you go if you were completely sceptical?

woody: Medjugorje is a big hoax!
Dec 25, 2018 15:50:19 GMT
Claritas: It was not my intention to go until a series of events led me there. I'll leave it up to the Church to decide what is and is not a hoax, I can only judge what I personally experienced, and those of others pilgrims I met. My only regret is not going sooner.

Colmcille: Forum is all into politics of the world and mickey measuring instead of any depth of spirituality - wrong focus. No salt or light. Pray and Fast. May God bring blessings to you.

maolsheachlann: Well, that is because it is a forum. I suspect everyone who does post here prays and fasts and cultivates a spiritual life. But these are things we agree on, so it doesn't really make for discussion.
Feb 28, 2019 10:18:21 GMT
maolsheachlann: Of course, if you want to take it in a different direction you are welcome to post something.
Feb 28, 2019 13:18:15 GMT
Colmcille: Political nonsense. You don't have to disagree with the depth of Catholic spirituality, lives of the Saints and treasures of the faith in order to discuss them.

maolsheachlann: This is why I disabled the shoutbox on the Irish Conservatives Forum. People with substantive contributions to make will do so in the forum.
