The current CATHOLIC VOICE (14-27 April) has a detailed theological critique of MDM's messages by Fr Owen Gorman and four other priests. Amongst other things they note that the wording of some messages have been changed (one in which Jesus originally says "I despair" was changed to "I am distressed"). I notice she is presenting herself as the great prophet of the end times (is she claiming to be Enoch, Elijah or both, I wonder?) and that she was already declaring in June 2011 that the Pope's teaching authority was about to be withdrawn (in this sense Pope Benedict's resignation was a stroke of luck for her, since she can twist that into a fulfilment of her prophecy). They also note that her anonymity precludes a proper evaluation of her claims since visionaries themselves are normally required to have their lifestyle examined. Their remark that to their personal knowledge MDM's messages have "spread division amongst once united prayer groups" gives a sense of how susceptible the prayer group culture is to this sort of alleged visionary even when the supposed revelations are clearly heretical. The whole article is worth a read.

I have a relative caught up in this nonsense. Can I read that article online?
In any case, one of her recent messages contained the following, supposed to be Jesus speaking of his agony at Gethsemane:
'I was shown the final destruction of my Church on earth;'
That should be enough for anybody.

Sadly, the Catholic Voice, unlike Alive!, doesn't publish articles on-line, so I'm afraid that you missed the boat. I agree that Catholics ought to have nothing to do with MDM if they know what's good for them.

Like Ger, I too need to read the Catholic Voice's article. Not one relative but many caught up in this nonsense. Someone told me earlier MDM is teaching Gnosticism. I didn't quite see that but more reading on the Second Coming website is giving me pause to think. April 24 and 26th. MDM posted that the Second Coming of Jesus "will be similar to His first coming, but with one difference. This time, HE WILL NOT COME AS MAN IN THE FLESH." What do you think? Could this be gnosticism? Are we to understand that our humanity which Jesus took on was merely an illusion?
This is important because MDM apostles are not very clear how the Second Coming of Jesus will not be the end of the world and the final judgement. Some kind of "invisible, spiritual" reign, as far as I can make out, during this promised 1,000 year era of peace and Paradise on Earth. Seems like Jesus will have to make three comings and not two to satisfy all MDM's promises.

While the apostles of Marie Divine Mercy may be reading her with rose colored glasses, whenever something just doesn't sound right I go back to Sacred Scripture and compare. Is one going to believe what the angels told the apostles, after the Ascension of Our Saviour, or is one going to listen to an unidentified person who describes herself as the Seventh Angel of Revelation? The choice should be self-evident. Here is what the book of Acts has to say about the Second Coming.
When the apostles had gathered together, they asked Him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom of Israel?” He answered them, “IT IS NOT FOR YOU TO KNOW the times or seasons that the Father has established by His own authority . . . as they were looking on, He was lifted up, and a cloud took Him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as He was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This JESUS WHO HAS BEEN TAKEN UP FROM YOU INTO HEAVEN WILL RETURN IN THE SAME WAY AS YOU HAVE SEEN HIM GOING INTO HEAVEN. Acts1:6-11
The Second Coming of Jesus will be visible to all because He will return in the same way He ascended. "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there?" Hearken to the voice of these two angels; leave "the seventh angel" to heaven. Christians are called to spread the Good News; not the bad news from Marie Divine Mercy.

More news on Maria Divine Mercy, apparently a former associate of Joe Coleman the self-proclaimed Knock psychic. It also seems she has taken good care to copyright the prophecies and they are a nice little earner. The failure of the Irish bishops to condemn this lunacy publicly seems, unfortunately to be par for the course midwaystreet.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/8/EXTRACT MDM’s visionary messages have been publicly condemned by Catholic bishops in several countries where the cult has evidenced itself. But the Irish bishops, who have jurisdiction over Mary, have not publicly spoken. And the silence is puzzling. But the November 1 writer, cited above, says Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin knows of the woman and assigned an Irish exorcist priest to meet her and examine her messages. She writes, “He told her that her messages were not from God, that they were utterly FALSE.” Will MDMers be convinced the scam is up? Or will these messages extend far into the future? The seers of Necedah, Wisconsin and later Bayside, New York, each reported visions for 20 years. Both condemned. There are dozens…hundreds?…of others. Some good; some not so good. Followers speak of the promotion of Catholic devotions, the emphasis on prayer, fasting, penance, recitation of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. There are more than 125 new MDM prayers through visions that form a Crusade of Prayer that circles the world. And it’s only three years old! This sure sounds like Jesus’ work. Or another diabolical trick to deceive faithful and sincere truth-seekers. There is honey in the trap. The financial stress the Carberrys endured evidenced by the threat of the loss of their home, and the social and business embarrassment, may have created an emotional foundation that pushed Mary to seek spiritual comfort. Perhaps Mary’s association with Joe Coleman suggested her own transcendental project. She had the in-family talent and international contacts to market to a world starved for spiritual clarity. I don’t believe Mary or Joe or dozens or hundreds of other “seers” set out initially to deceive. The sincerity in the eyes of Joe Coleman kneeling in prayer wins hearts. The prayers and messages from those behind the curtain of Maria Divine Mercy capture minds and souls. Mary may be an authentic bridge from this side to the other, but it isn’t God talking. The dark forces are a wink away. The devil will embrace his enemy and betray his friends in the grand exercise of wickedness and entrapment. We are told that in the end even the elect will be deceived. The time is ripe with befuddlement and desperate for leadership. For a time, I was convinced that these messages were authentic. But there were problems I kept dismissing. Contradictions. Harsh language. Even problems with sentence structure and punctuation! [Is no one checking these for grammar?] Forget the theological arguments: We live in an age dispossessed of doctrinal allegiance – at the highest levels! It is the person of Mary Carberry that speaks to the deceit. Mary and John have a beautiful, intelligent and talented family. Pray they are sheltered from harm as a consequence of these revelations. And that she comes clean soon. It’s time to lift the curtain. Saseen END

I really wonder why worldwide there are so many catholics who believe in such blunder and nonsense like the messages of MDM.
I like also to mention that if pope Franciscus would be the false prophet then logically also Benedict XVI. was it. Because pope Franciscus was elected as pope by the same cardinals who also voted for Benedict XVI. for pope. If the cardinals are all masons and serving the evil, also Benedict XVI. was elevated to the pope by masons and servants of the evil. This alone shows how absurd this messages are.
But not only no one of the prophecies became true, (even not that about Benedict XVI, because he is still in Rome and is not reigning the church from the exil), they contain additionally tons of heresies and wrong teachings.
I just want to pick out 3 examples of these heresies in the message:
1. In a message from summer 2012 she wrote that CATHOLICS have to confess every 2 weaks in order to stay in the state of grace. This is nonsense as the catholic church distinguishes between venial and mortal sins. We only fall out of the state of grace by committing mortal sins that we have to confess in order to be put again in the state of grace. The venial sins are forgiven by receiving the holy communion, of course only if there is no mortal sin to confess before.
2. In a message also in summer 2012 - if I remember correctly - she pretended Jesus would accord a plenary indulgence only by praying seven days in a row a crusade prayer from her messages. But Jesus doesn't give any indulgences by private revelations. He delegated this to the church respectiveley the pope and then there are conditions to fulfill: 1. To be free from the adherence to every sin, also the venial. 2. The confession of the sins. 3. The consumption of the eucharistic species in the blessed sacrement. 4. Prayer in the opinin of the pope( our father in heaven...., Hail Mary)
3. But she reached the peak of the heresies when she menaced all those with the unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit and the eternal hell who don't believe the the messages are from God and dare to criticize the messages. Every catholic should know that we are not obliged to believe in private revelation, even not those which are accepted by the church coming from God (like Lourdes or Fatima), because they don't belong to the binding faith of the church. We are allowed to believe in them if the church acccept them coming from God but it's not a "must". So it's impossible to sin against the Holy Spirit in relation to private revelations. The church clearly defines the unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit in a complete other manner.
These are only a few examples of the heresies. Catholics who believe such rubbish should visit a really good catechism of the church.
Possibly in Ireland there are less people who take this nonsense seriously, but there are unfortunately too many people in the world who believe it.
Sorry for the long posting and the possible mistakes in my text. English is not my mother language I tried to express myself as well as possible. I hope it's understandable for the readers here.

There was a piece in the business section of The Phoenix a few weeks ago about the woman behind MDM. I can't remember the date, but it is the first article in the "Hot Water Brigade" column, so if anyone has the last two or three Phoenixes, it should be easy to find.

Here it is for anyone who is interested, courtesy of Dialogue Ireland (though I do not endorse all of that site's views): A DUBLIN-BASED PR specialist named Mary Carberry was the centre of a colourful story in the Irish Mail On Sunday last month, which alleged that the businesswoman was involved in a bizarre religious outfit called Maria Divine Mercy (MDM). She claims to receive prophecies from God and flogs various religious paraphernalia online, such as books and medals. But the real story about Carberry – who also goes by her maiden name, Mary McGovern – relates to her business history. She has been involved in all sorts of companies in recent years, a number of which have been hauled up before the courts over bad debts. Carberry tends to use her maiden name for her PR business, McGovern PR, and has been a director of a slew of companies in recent years, most of which have been related to PR or marketing. In 2009, Irish Nationwide took Carberry and her husband, John Carberry, to the Circuit Court seeking possession of their Malahide home, which was €50,000 in arrears. Happily, however, six years on the Malahide home remains the address given for Carberry on company records. Also in 2009, Fingal County Council secured a small judgment of €4,000 in the District Court in connection with a business of Carberry’s known as ‘McGovern Communications.’ In 2010, meanwhile, Ulster Bank sued her in the High Court and was awarded judgment of €36,000, which was subsequently converted into a judgment mortgage. Three years later, the bank was granted an execution order, meaning that the sheriff was sent to seize assets belonging to the businesswoman. Meanwhile in 2011, a company owned by Carberry called Ambition Awards Ltd (which traded as ‘Online PR’) collapsed into liquidation, having previously had judgments totalling €5,500 granted against it in favour of Fingal County Council. The PR woman has also been the director of a number of companies that have been struck off by the Companies Registration Office for failing to file accounts. These have included a recruitment company, Culturelink Ltd, and a property company called Marbella Property Investments Ltd, both of which were struck off in 2005. Since then, at least five Carberry-linked companies have also been struck off, most of which were related to PR or marketing. Carberry has been the focus of attention from online sleuths who have been attempting to uncover the mystery of who exactly is behind MDM, which began around 2010. One of its websites, ‘Coma Books’, sells something called ‘The Book of Truth’ and religious medals. ‘Coma Books’ is a registered business name belonging Sarah and Mary Carberry to Trumpet Publishing Ltd, which was set up in 2010. Carberry’s daughter, Sarah Carberry, was a director here but stepped down in 2013. The current directors are a retired Donegal dentist, Breffni Cully, and a German national, Heinrich Martin Roth. Another company apparently linked to MDM is Merdel Ltd, set up to sell religious medals but which doesn’t appear to have ever traded. (Cully and Roth held the shares here.) Using her maiden name, Mary Carberry’s signature appears on the company’s incorporation document as a witness. She declined to respond to queries from Goldhawk about her involvement with the religious group.dialogueireland.wordpress.com/2015/02/18/maria-divine-mercy-holy-marys-pr-problem-phoenix-february-2015y/
