The Brandsma Review editorial that Fr Flannery (see Hibernicus in the ACPI thread) is so upset about is here:
So, is the BR fair or foul to Fr Tony?

Contents summary for the July-August BRANDSMA Peadar Laighleis's editorial requesting the ACPI to clarify their position on abortion - reproduced in the post above The Editor's Desk discusses devotion to the Precious Blood (notes it was promoted by Bl.John XXIII), regrets that Nick Lowry is currently not writing for the BRANDSMA due to a disagreement, and asks for prayers for the soul of Marie Celine Morgan Tom O'Gorman of the Iona Institute spells out the problems involved in the ongoing push to legalise same-sex marriage (both in its presentation of sex differences as illusory and in its implications for religious freedom) and appeals for more effective opposition to it. Eanna Johnson contrasts Pope Francis' frequent references to the reality of the devil with the unsatisfactory treatment of devils and angels in the ALIVE-O religious education programme for schools, and describes the widespread ignorance and confusion on the subject of devils and angels produced by bad catechesis. Part I of an article by Fr Aidan McGing CM criticising Darwinism (in the sense of natural selection being a purely random process without any inner teleology). Monika Barget reviews some post-feminist German publications (by women authors) on the problems created for family life and the long-term wellbeing of society by the downgrading of marriage and family (by both feminists and laissez-faire capitalism). Peadar Laighleis discusses the Russian Revolution as represented in contemporary Russian literature (with special emphasis on Bulgakov's THE MASTER AND MARGARITA) and notes a dark and destructive side which is often downplayed. Hibernicus criticises Desmond Fennell's new book THIRD STROKE DID IT as simplistic and despairing in its analysis of Western civilisation or post-civilisation. Fr Brendan Purcell offers a reflection on the Transfiguration through the life of the focolarina Fiore Ungaro. Hibernicus offers some reflections on how pro-lifers are demonised by certain commentators, on the need to document the history of the Irish pro-life movement to give pro-lifers a clearer sense of what it has all been about (the pro-choicers are taking care to set down their own version of events for propaganda purposes) and how some poorly-chosen tactics play into the hands of those doing the demonising. Letters; Eric Conway discusses a recent anti-Church rant from Senator John Crown, and Fr Anthony Scully dissects Herod Endipas's recent equivocations and weasel words concerning the PLP (i.e. abortion) Act. Hurling Shots from the Ditch comments on the contributions (generally of the minus variety) made by various deputies and commentators during the abortion debates, including Herod Endipas's selective use of John F Kennedy's speech on the relationship between his political role and his Catholicism.

Éanna Johnson's contributions are usually to the point on and this one is no different. One would ask if catechetical planners inhabit cloud cuckoo land. I'd like to see their objective list, as preserving the faith doesn't seem to be up there. What do they want to achieve?
There are three new writers in this current Brandsma Review, but most readers will know Tom O'Gorman from either the Irish Catholic or Catholic Voice. The BR and the II have plenty of common objectives: the II have information at their finger tips regarding the situation of the family; the BR can offer them more space to air serious views than newspapers like the IC or CV or Alive! Sticking with the family, the interesting thing about another new writer Monika Barget's piece is that the books she cites come from women on different sides of the political debate in Germany: Kristina Schröder is a CDU minister; Susanne Gaschke is the SDP Lord Mayor of Kiel. But the target is this alliance between neo-liberal economics and social liberalism/feminism.
The third new contributor, Fr Aidan McGing makes a very reasonable philosophic case against Darwinism.
Aside from Dr Johnson, the voices of the old BR here are Peadar Laighléis, Hibernicus (who we are privileged to have on this forum) and Fr Brendan Purcell. Hibernicus has said enough about Fr Purcell's contribution above.
Peadar Laighléis perhaps could have concentrated on Solzhenitsyn's presentation of the late Russian Empire, Revolution and early Soviet period in August 1914 and October 1916, but I think the rationale is that people were reasonably familiar with Solzhenitsyn's historical treatment of the period, where Bulgakov is very well known in the Slavic world but not so much so in the west that his parody of Stalinist Moscow was something worth going for.
Hibernicus makes a point he has made consistently here, and it applies to pro lifers, to Latin Mass advocates and all other aspects of this struggle as is carried in the BR. There needs to be some form of record from our point of view. Otherwise, history is written by our opponents. Remember George Orwell in 1984: Those who control the present, control the past; those who control the past, control the future. We need to work on this too.
The critique of Des Fennell is a difficult area as that many people on our side of the fence have been admirers of Fennell for some time and there is material of value in Fennell. However, Fennell doesn't develop his central thesis in his book, that the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings represent a definitive break with Christian civilisation in the United States. From a personal point of view, I could sympathise with Fennell's points, but it struck me that they were coming from the gut rather than the intellect on reading the book, and we need to do better than that.

The September-October BR has just gone into Veritas. It's colour is navy blue, as there are several Marian feasts in September and October.
This is less than a year after the July-August 2012 went into Veritas and only a week less than 10 months since last year's September-October went in, so progress is being made on deadlines.

The November-December BR has just gone into Veritas. This is the earliest ever; 13 days before the September-October 12 arrived last year in the same place. The November-December went in on 19 December last year and was pulled off the shelves just over a week later due to the face date.
This is the first time since then I've gone in to see several issues of the September-October still on the shelves; so for reference, the November-December is deep pink (rose) in colour.

This is a good development - I was in just after 12 and didn't see it. A couple of people at St KEvin's were asking me last Sunday when was it going to come out.

It wasn't on sale on Sunday - I gave my copy of the new one to a friend who was asking about it.

For the BR to go on sale in St Kevin's, there would need to be a volunteer to sell it. There isn't at present, so it is unlikely to be on sale there anytime soon.
In churches in general, the BR management is open to supplying churches with copies for sale and an offer has been made to distribute the BR to churches where orders are placed by a delivery agency which does this type of thing. If a small number of parish churches/order churches in Ireland take this up, it would make an incredible difference to the magazine.

Are you sure that's the new site? It hasn't been updated as recently as the other one.
