Current CATHOLIC VOICE reports Rosary Crusade against Abortion in Ireland are holding a Rosary Vigil outside the Dail on Saturday 23 March @ 3 pm. Phone (028)90278484 for more details if in Northern Ireland, (048)90278484 if in Republic. THis is for information. I worry this Rosary Vigil will be seized on by the usual suspects to portray this as a Catholics-only issue, but as it is taking place a good turnout would be helpful. (Can't make it myself.)

www.donboscorelics.ie/Don Bosco's relics will be arriving here next week, going through Dublin, Kildare, Laoise, Belfast, Meath, Limerick and Mayo. The Papal Nuncio and Archbishop Martin will be there for the Dublin stops.

I would like to announce that there will be a meeting of the GK Chesterton Society of Ireland on 23rd March, at noon, in the Central Catholic Library in Merrion Square.
Admission free, all welcome. If you could read Ian Ker's recent biography of the great man for the meeting, that would be great, but you don't have to.

I would love to attend too - but I don't think I'll be available on Saturday week.

Hope it goes well for you Mal, but sadly I won't be able to make it as I live very far away from Dublin.

This is a follow-up of January's Vigil for Life on Merrion Square.
"So we urge you to do all you can to get to the National Vigil for Life which will be held in Merrion Square, Dublin on Saturday, 8th June from 3-4pm. This event must be a big success. The Vigil comes at the key moment with the Government producing the actual legislation.
We must demonstrate the massive number of pro-life people in Ireland. Early June is a vital time and we need to do everything we can – now.
Please get involved by attending yourself and inviting as many others as possible. Bring a carload or a busload!"

Sorry, Alaisdir, I only noticed your question now. It was only a handful of people-- seven-- then again, I didn't send a notice to the Irish Catholic as usual, since it's worse if too many people turn up. We had a pretty good, wide-ranging discussion about several Chesterton-related topics, including the recent Ian Ker biography, the BBC Father Brown series, and an article that Christopher Hitchens wrote about Chesterton very soon before his death.
I think there is sufficient interest in an Irish Chesterton Society for a more formal and professional one to be organized, but I myself am no organizer.

Maoleachlann, if want to run something about the Chesterton Society in the Brandsma Review or hitch a GKC talk onto to a Brandsma Conference (none envisaged at present, but it will come up at some stage - probably when the Abortion business has settled down, especially if we loose), we can do that.

A mention in the Brandsma Review sounds like a good idea, might whip up some interest and maybe someone with an organizational brain might be reading!!

There is a Corpus Christi procession at St Kevin's Church, Harrington Street at 3.30pm next Sunday (2 June). Come if you can - such processions are rarer than they used to be and it would be nice to have a good turnout.

There was one in Kerry just today, which attracts a decent crowd every year. I don't think that these processions are quite as rare as Hib makes out.

There was one in cork today as well - my contact in Cork tells me that somebody organises a "Children's Fun Day" in Bishop Lucey Park every year with the not-so-subtle aim of competing with the procession. I didn't say they were rare, only that they are rarer than then they used to be - I don't know how many there are around the country. The Cork parade was revived in the 1920s as a form of corporate homage by the city (the councillors used to march in their robes, the trade unions marched as a body, the professors from University College Cork in their academic gowns). That aspect I think has pretty much gone by the board.
