Quite true - I'm not going to endorse Ann Coulter any more than I endorse Michael Moore.

As a hetero. male, Hibernicus, I have to part company with you there. Comparing Michael Moore with Ann Coulter, that's heresy where I come from. Even if you find her abrasive, surely on the basis that - " my enemies enemy is my friend " !. As an aside, have you read " Profiles in Liberal Hypocricy ", by Peter Schweizer ; he brilliantly exposes both Michael Moore & Noam Chomsky as happily living off the hated capitalist establishment in private, while attacking it in public.

"My enemy's enemy is my friend" is a very dangerous maxim - the sort of thing that has some American Catholics defending Ayn Rand because she's a "conservative" author even though she's aggressively atheistic and anti-Christian. It's not just that she's abrasive - she just argues for effect and without regard for truth, which is why I compare her to Michael Moore. The real proverb is Gresham's Law - bad money drives out good. Rely on bad arguments and dishonest allies, and they will fail you when you need good and reliable support. Remember, this is a woman who declares her SEX AND THE CITY lifestyle proves she is a Christian because it shows she isn't a Muslim! Furthermore, as a heterosexual male I think she is excessively skinny - though she'd still be a charlatan if she resembled Botticelli's Venus.

No - Ann Coulter is the sort of commentator who is basically an entertainer and says things for effect. I wouldn't class her with the NRO crowd, the CITY JOURNAL people, or even the palaeocons - I have axes to grind with all these people but they make serious policy proposals. Praising Coulter and using "OTT" as a term of criticism are pretty much incompatible IMHO.

I totally disagree with you. I just think she's very good on T.V. She demolished the smug, patronising Jeremy Paxman. That's good enough for me. She shocks to sell books, that is her livelihood. Anyway, frequently liberals/feminists need to be shocked/gratuitously insulted. Give them some of their own medicine

Socrates shocked people - so did Hugh Hefner. That doesn't mean Hefner is a new Socrates. It's his livelihood, too.
