Your prayers are requested for the victims of the explosion during the Boston Marathon a couple of hours ago. It is not known yet if there are any fatalities.

Very sorry to hear this Shane, I will keep you all in my prayers. You have a long road ahead of you, don't be afraid to ask questions of the staff and link in with support services if you can. God bless.

I will pray for Shane's mother.
You might pray for the repose of the soul of a young man known to me who died in the past few days at the age of 39/40 leaving a widow and children aged 7 and 4. The man was found to have cancer shortly before St Patrick's Day and this advanced more rapidly than expected. You might keep his family in your prayers too, as they are understandably vulnerable just now.
For all lovers of the extraordinary form, a further request has gone to the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter to commit a priest permanently to Ireland, based on support for Latin Mass apostolates in the Cork & Ross and Ferns dioceses. The LMSI Mass on Saturday in Waterford has suggested there may be an opening in this diocese too. But prayers are needed. I know it may seem greedy when I already say that the ICRSS and OSB have problems, but 1. the harvest is great and the labourers are few; and 2. the FSSP will not involve major infrastructural costs on anyone untill they have built up a congregation that can afford it. I don't mean that as a criticism of the others - a monastic building is a requirement for Benedictines and the ICRSS have a similar spirituality to the OSBs.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of the British pro-life campaigner Dr MArgaret White, who has died. She was not a Catholic (indeed, she was an early promoter of artificial contraception) but she was a strong promoter of the pro-life cause and opponent of abortion and euthanasia, based on the Hippocratic Oath and her Anglican faith. She was also a promoter of Down's Syndrome research and therapy (she had a granddaughter with Down's). Pray for her. Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Fr Gerard Cusack, O.Praem, prior of Kilnacrott Abbey, who died on 19 March. According to the SUNDAY TIMES yesterday, he died from an adverse reaction to a vaccination undergone in preparation for one of his regular visits to the Norbertine Order's work in Africa, so he might be considered a martyr of charity. The Irish Norbertines were re-established early in the twentieth century, and did much good work in inner-city Dublin and elsewhere (as I mentioned on another post, I was surprised to learn how extensively the late Tony Gregory TD worked with them on projects to help the inner city) as well as with Aid to the Church in Need, established by Fr Werenfried van Straaten O.Praem. It is tragic that they are likely to be remembered only for the crimes of the late Fr Brendan Smyth and the inexcusable cover-up which allowed those crimes to continue.
