First of all, if emotions are not tied in to someone's spiritual beliefs, then there is no true belief to begin with. There is a huge difference between someone who prays the rosary every day because he was told to and someone who does it becuase he wants to...because he feels closer to God when he prays it.
How do you define a "miracle" anyway? Is having a child not a miracle? Does God want us to see that as just a biological thing and nothing more? What about having a tornado pass through a town without killing anyone? Not a miracle...just something that happened? What about the simple things such as waking up to a new day? That's not a miracle...it's just life, right? When I wake up to a new day, still have my house, my health, my job...yeah, that's a miracle whether people like it or not! If you have a job in a bad economy, it's a miracle. Am i saying that everything is a miracle? Well yeah, the world was created by God and everything God does is good. If you can't call everything God does a miracle, that's your choice. But "miracle" is just a word and people can use it as they please.
(the argument) But Kelly, this kind of idea will lead you to making bad and unintellectual decisions.
Yeah, unintellecual...maybe. But much of intellect (notice I am not saying all) is human. People tend to be jealous of those who live off faith and trust in God...those who get excited about simple things such as a sunset. Not saying they are bad people, but it helps to open up the heart and to see God in all his creations.
Ok back to Lourdes. I will tell you of something my entire family calls a miracle, but it was never documented as one. My uncle had cancer and was given 6 months to live. My grandmother (his mom) had gone to Lourdes some years before and had brought back some water. When my uncle wasn't looking, she sprinked it on his back and prayed. The next time he went to the doctor, his cancer was gone...they could find no trace. It's been 12 years and he still doesn't know to this day that my grandmother did that.
Some could call this a freak situation, others would call it a miracle. You can call it what you want, but I know what it was. Yes, some people might fake that they are cured of something. Nothing is ever perfect. But we can use our own judgement as to who is faking and who is for real. We don't need to analyze a cure for years and years to finally make that judgement.
