This is a new thread in which the moderator announces and explains his decisions. Ezigbotutu has been banned from the board for repeated aggressive insults and abusive posts. Michael has been banned from the board for irrational and time-wasting posts. Further announcements will follow.

Hello ! I had been absent from this Forum for a while, I know. I was busy with another french site (non religious) in which I encountered a big success... Well I am happy for Hibernicus becoming the Chief of Staff of this forum. Hopefully he will manage to attract more people and above all promote on somehow the Tradition. Hopefully also we will be able to focus on constructive discussions. The Forum needs indeed a revamp, and i think we can trust Hibernicus who knows well the other kinds of successfull forum, especially the american ones.

I haven't banned Hazelireland yet, though I am seriously considering it because he regularly resorts to sophistry (doesn't answer straight questions, won't respond to questions about his own views) and has repeatedly called me a liar. Michael G may have banned him or he may have wandered off. Thanks for the good wishes, Guillaume. I hope I can live up to expectations. Posting will be light for the next week or so for family reasons (nothing serious, just want to maximise time with my parents whom I am visiting). Happy New Year to all on the forum.

The ban on ezigboututu didn't work at first because I misspelled his name. He has now been banned and most of his posts deleted for being aggressive and abusive - this culminated in his calling for the catholic Church to be declared an illegal organisation and claiming that all Catholics simply by being Catholics are complicit in child abuse. I regret the loss of his comments on the Dublin scandals because all Catholics should bear this in mind and I will start a thread of my own on them in due course (unless anoyone else wishes to do so). I have also deleted many/most posts by knightofcolumbus and gabriel as these were demented and timewasting. More announcements will follow. If I ban someone or delete posts I will announce it on this htread and give reasons for my decision. I am mounting these massive deletions because the PROBOARDS format allows a troublemaker to clog up a thread and suffocate it very easily if not stopped.

Advocacy of racism and antisemitism will in future lead to an immediate ban. Posts of such a nature will be deleted unless the moderator decides to keep them in order to analyse them and show the falsehood of their arguments and the malevolence of the mindset involved. The moderator's decision about what constitutes racism and antisemitism will be final; he will post the reasoning behind his decisions on thsi thread.

A few more points about how this forum will develop. Ezigboututu's last post before he was banned and deleted attacked me for citing David Quinn on the grounds that he is not a neutral source. Two points should be made in relation to this: (1) This is not a neutral site. It is a resource developed and maintained by Catholics for the use of Catholics with the aim of deepening their faith through developing a wider understanding. Non-Catholics are here on sufferance and not as of right - they will be tolerated so long as they observe the norms of courteous and reasoned debate, because clear thought is a virtue in itself and dealing with fair-minded and reasonable opponents helps to deepen the understanding. Catholic posters who engage in abusive and insulting behaviour or who post irrational rubbish (the moderator(s) will be the final judge on this; if anyone has any questions about decisions just say so, preferably on this thread, so long as the objections are stated in a courteous and reasonable manner) will be banned and deleted just the same as non-catholics who transgress. (2) The fact that a poster provides links to an article or quotes extracts from it does not mean that everything on that site/article is necessarily correct or endorsed by the board or even the person who posted it. It means that the poster thinks the site/article/arguments may be of interest to the other members of the board. They are not absolved from thinking for themselves. Links to objectionable sites will be deleted as soon as the moderator becomes aware of them, unless there is a clear and valid reason for them (e.g. when I am denouncing anti-semitism among traditionalists and sometimes link to anti-semitic material to show that these monstrous views have really been expressed by the people I am criticising). To avoid misunderstandings, posters are advised to state clearly when they are doing this.

I didn't expel hazelireland and if I had I would have said so. I think Michael G had some sort of contact with him but I don't know the details. Saintstephen's posts have been deleted. I intend to reimpose the distinction between the Catholic forum where only Catholics can post and the open forum where atheists and other non-Catholics can do so. This is because I think there ought to be a part of this site where Catholics can discuss current events/issues among themselves in the light of Catholic teaching, rather than having every thread turned into an argument over the existence of God. (Those who have been on the board for some time will remember that when I tried to establish parallel threads to discuss the pro-life issue in the two fora, Hazelireland insited on posting in the Catholic thread although he was specifically asked to confine his comments to the open forum). I aim to make this divide by 31 January. I am announcing it now so that posters will have time to adjust and prepare. I will review the threads on the current Catholic forum and possibly move some to the open forum as Michael G did when he set up the two fora.

Confirmed, I have indeed been banned, regardless of how honest the person who did it wants to be.

If that's an insinuation that I banned Hazel, I didn't - unless I somehow did it unintentionally. I called for him to be banned before I got amde an administrator, but I didn't push the button myself.

Indeed. Clearly it is all just just an amazing coincidence of timing that what you wanted to happen happened a mere 12 hours after you got the power to make it happen during a period while you were in fact making the same thing happen to other people.
The world is, I guess, full of amazing coincidences of this sort.

Hazel - if I had banned you I would have blocked your username and you would no longer be posting under it. That is what I did to Ezigboututu. You have just insinuated that I am a deliberate liar. Do that once more and I WILL ban you. In case you, or anyone else on this board - hasn't heard, accusations of deliberate falsehood are fatal to reasoned debate, which has to rest on the assumption that the participants are telling the truth as they see it (though they may be mistaken - and if you say they are mistaken it's your duty to show why you think they are mistaken). Therefore, anyone on this board who calls another participant a liar will get one warning; if they do it a second time they are OUT.

I forgot to explain - ddddyyyy sent in inconsequential posts studded with spam ads and has been banned and deleted as a waste of space.
