Monkeyman, If you know Peadar Laighleis, you can answer me this. I was in the Shelbourne last night with a couple of my mates. I thought I saw Laighleis with two priests I never saw but who looked like they were Latin - French, Spanish, Italian, whatever, but they were wearing black cassocks. D'ye think the bloke is conducting his own negotiations with the Pixies behind our backs? B. O Niaidh. I think someone needs to give up the drink for Lent. He can go to the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart - or go to the Capuchins in Church St to get the Sacred Thirst Pin.

That would be the same NOVUS ORDO WATCH which headed its report of the election of Benedict XVi "habent papam" (i.e. "they have a Pope" not "we have a Pope"), referred to him as "Fr. Joseph ratzinger, and claimed that whereas his immediate predecessors were not popes they were at least bishops, he is only a priest (i.e. they don't recognise the new rite of episcopal ordination as valid)?

Well Bishop Fellay and his two assistants had being invited by Cardinal Levada in September to discuss... the "doctrinal discussions" which occurred recently. Cardinal Levada who will be replaced from his position in 2012. It is worth noting that the SSPX has relations with the Vatican which seem more fruitful and respectful that the ACP people.

The SSPX may be a bit more courteous than the ACP (!) but the basic mindset is the same - the only acceptable outcome is for the Vatican to accept their interpretation of "tradition". They are not even arguing for their view to be recognised as a legitimate theological opinion, so far as I can see (this was the basis on which the Feeneyites came back). They want it to be declared the ONLY legitimate theological opinion.
