This sort of horror never ceases to disgust and amaze. It never should cease to do so. The story of a Spanish Jesuit missionary in South America who used his order's educational mission to prey on poor children who were silenced because education was their only chance of escaping extreme poverty, and the failure of numerous superiors to put a permanent stop to his actions. This has come to light because he kept a diary, which his family released to the secular press. How many more such cases were there- not just involving Spaniards? www.pillarcatholic.com/p/bolivian-bishops-offer-solidarity/commentsJust read this. Absolutely horrific. The only good purpose this can offer is the insight it gives into a paedophile predator's mind.

The revelation of the crimes of Jean Vanier was particularly shocking because L'Arche did and does so much good. The article linked below discusses how some forms of Marian mysticism and seeking after signs and wonders can be perverted in this way. There are certain similarities with the case of Fr Rupnik. (I might add that there are similarities with certain tantric practices in forms of Buddhism, and that the late Irish novelist Francis Stuart is a striking example of a sadist misusing certain forms of mysticism which emphasise female suffering to glorify his own tendencies.) wherepeteris.com/understanding-larche-abuse-imagining-path-forward/

Besmirching Our Lady's name by associating her devoted followers with them is low though.

The Christian Brothers certainly have not covered themselves in glory in their handling of this case. I might note that the convicted perpetrator was recruited to the Brothers when he was 14 - a very problematic and often downright harmful practice whose evil effects we frequently see - and that his modus operandi was often used by abusers - systematically grooming a boy whose father is absent and presenting himself as a father figure before moving in on them. How long and how often did this go on? Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice, intercede amidst these horrors. www.rte.ie/news/courts/2023/0718/1395181-christian-brothers-court/

You wouldn't be posting this with the initials AMDG after it.
