I gather from the tone of the replies to my original question that those fallen-away Catholics, who have not kept the faith, should not be given Catholic funerals. I wonder if this is the correct charitable and Catholic response? I don't think it is up to us to have an opinion regarding this. It is up to a priest.

we are part of the People of God. The Mystical Body of Christ, What we think is important. We have a duty to evangelize and participate in the life of the Church. We belong, we are the Church.

Thank you for your balanced post.
No Catholic politician has been excommunicated. The Pope backed off from his criticism of Mexican politicians.
Pelosi and Biden have not been excommunicated, even though in discussion groups I subscribe to calls for their excommunication and personal vilification have been frequent.
It seems to me to be a pity fore Catholics to opt out of public life.
