I have access to the Irish Newspaper Archive through my job. It's a fascinating resource which gives access to most of the Irish national and provincial papers stretching back a century and more.
I'm interested in reading columns by Catholic writers, especially Catholic priests. Can anyone here suggest anyone I might look for? I remember Fr. Colm Kilcoyne, and we all know Fr. Brian D'Arcy. Any others? I'm especially interested in writers dating back several decades.

Quite a few book collections of Fr Nash's columns were published. His autobiography MY LAST BOOK may be of interest, though like Fulton Sheen he was somewhat impersonal. He actually pioneered the written-to-order religious column in Ireland - previously this role was fulled by verbatim reports of bishops' pastorals and sermons. One thing to bear in mind is that Fr Nash, though transparently honest (he actually died in the confessional, where he was still active at an advanced age) was a rigorist. He was not one to temper the wind to the shorn lamb; indeed he was all too prone to suggest that the shorn lamb should take an icebath for the good of its soul, and to do so in such a way as to imply that failure to do so meant said lamb was spiritually deficient.

It would be interesting to see them all gathered into one place. The Irish Times was chosen by Frank rather than any other paper because they didn't edit his letters in any way but let them stand exactly as he had written them.

The Irish Times on a Saturday used have a piece written by the Protestant Archbishop of Dublin at the time, George Otto Simms (died 1991), which was always worth reading.
