I think Goldvulture is devoting an inordinate amount of time and energy to the far right in recent issues which suggests to me a panic. At the end of the day Justin Barrett isn't and is never going to be significant and endless coverage only feeds his ego.
However, I gather that a few issues back, there was coverage of Garry O'Sullivan's income as manager of the Irish Catholic which has given me a different perspective on the appeals for funding. I just had this reported to me, but did anyone see it?

I saw the item in the business section of the relevant PHOENIX. I didn't note it here because it seemed to me to simply make fun of Garry O'Sullivan by contrasting his religious interests with his salary, which is pretty facile - Garry O'Sullivan is not a religious vowed to poverty.
The current PHOENIX has a profile of Justin Barrett which emphasises his "consistency" since his Youth Defence days, while ignoring his volte-face on divorce (NATIONAL WAY FORWARD in 2000 called for a referendum to overturn the 1995 one) which he himself admits is connected with his split from the first Mrs Barrett. In other words, Goldvulture is using Justin to tar the whole pro-life and pro-family movement. Another article reports on Justin's online message to his remaining followers, who could probably hold a meeting in a matchbox, about his plans to rebuild the NP. Yes, in Justin's mind Army Group Steiner will soon emerge to turn the tide.
Goldvulture's attacks on the far right reflect (a) genuine moral disgust at some of the anti-immigrant violence and racist rhetoric we have seen recently (b) the fact that some of the far right are targeting Sinn Fein voters by presenting themselves as the real nationalists and SF as sell-outs; this allows Goldvulture, who is generally though not always a SF fanboy, to promote SF among his politically correct readers.

I understand David Quinn's late father has been singled out for abuse on account of his broad support for Israel (in a very different context). I believe the origin of this was something people read in The Phoenix. Not good.

The original article in the PHOENIX drew attention to Brian Quinn's longstanding leadership role in the Ireland Israel Friendship League and suggests this was a vested interest hte late Mr Quinn should have declared in his journalism. Apparently David Quinn had an article in last Sunday's IRISH SUNDAY TIMES complaining that because of the PHOENIX article he has received a lot of online hate (I would imagine from a combination of pro-Palestinians, people who hate him personally and anti-Semites.) The current PHOENIX has a new article doubling down on the original piece and declaring its support for the Palestinian cause. I have the impression that just under the surface of both articles is an innuendo that Brian Quinn's activities did not derive from disinterested sympathy for Israel but that he was a paid Israeli agent. Goldvulture has a long record of statements about Israel/Palestine which are widely seen as going beyond the bounds and verging on antisemitism. I think this is also related to the magazine's regular suggestions that the West is in no respect morally superior to Messrs Putin, Assad and Co as part of the PHOENIX's advocacy of Irish neutrality.

Looked at the Clerical Errors column in the Phoenix Annual. Don't these guys get Mary McAleese is a non-entity as far as the Universal Church is concerned?

Given Goldvulture's advocacy of a massive cattle cull, he must want a prophetess who can do for the Church what this lady did for the Xhosa. Mary McAleese fits that bill, all right: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nongqawuse
