A bit of an odd question, but does anyone know if the Dubliners had any religious convictions?
I know Luke Kelly was a red, but I don't know if he was a God-basher.
I heard one of them was introduced to music by a Christian Brother and was ever after grateful.
I know they would play "Lord of the Dance", but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. (I actually quite like that song, I must admit.)

From what Luke said about the show "Jesus Christ, Superstar" I guess he was a believer and that his faith sustained him in his life. youtu.be/fzfswNa7ZTk

Luke Kelly was an actual communist party member. It's probably worth bearing in mind both that a communist might use Christian language because he saw communism as fulfilling the hopes previously expressed through Christianity, and that communism does appeal to a prophetic thirst for justice and associated virtues which are genuinely Judaeo-Christian (I use the term because of the debt to the Hebrew Prophets - Karl Stern said only someone who had been brought up as a Jew could grasp the full extent of the Prophetic influence on Marxism.) We should never forget how communism turned out in practice, but we shouldn't forget that it appealed to genuine virtues. This may be appropriate for our present circumstances: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTBC7ckTWpo
