She will have my prayers.
I have been meaning for some time to start a regular thread requesting prayers for the souls of the recently deceased (I have been posting such requests on this thread for some time) so I hope no slight is taken by the friends of Mrs Purcell if this thread is used in future for that purpose. If anyone thinks it would be better to start a separate thread, please post and let me know.

And to start with a couple of requests:
Your prayers are asked for the repose of the soul of the late Sargent Shriver, founder of the US Peace Corps and democrat vice-presidential candidate in 1972, who died recently. I believe he was a member of Opus Dei and was a striking example of how religious orthodoxy and political liberalism need not be incompatible - sadly his children have not followed the pro-life witness maintained by him and by their mother the late Eunice Kennedy, founder of the Special Olympics.

On a slightly sadder note, the novelist Wilfrid Sheed, son of the late Frank Sheed and Maisie Ward has died. I believe he was a lapsed Catholic - he was certainly divorced and remarried. Pray for him, that the intercession of his ancestors may not be in vain.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of the well-known abortionist turned pro-life spokesman, Dr Bernard Nathanson, who has died. Here is a link to a tribute by Joe Scheidler.

Sorry to hear Fr Finnigan has died - he was the oldest professed Jesuit in Ireland (perhaps the world) and remained in harness to the end. "well done, thou good and faithful servant". Let us show our gratitude for his labours by prayers for his soul.

Your prayers are also requested for all those affected by the current tsunami in the Pacific.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Garret Fitzgerald. Many of the measures he advocated and carried out were harmful, but at least he was usually straight about them - more harm was done by cynics who said the right things and did the wrong ones.

Your prayers are also, belatedly requested for Mr Richard Power, a founder of the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, whom I understand from his IRISH TIMES obit to have regularly attended the EF Mass in limerick.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of the euthanasia advocate Dr jack Kevorkian. May he have received grace to see and repent the evils he promoted.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of former US Senator Mark Hatfield, who has just died. He was an opponent of the death penalty and the Vietnam war, and a striking exception to the tendency of the liberal wing of the Republican Party to be pro-abortion.
